Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes wins second stage in Tour de France Femmes

Cyclist Lorena Wiebes has claimed her second stage victory in this year’s Tour de France Femmes. The European champion from SD Worx–Protime triumphed in a bunch sprint at the end of Stage 4, adding to her win in Stage 3. In the streets of Poitiers, she finished ahead of yellow jersey wearer Marianne Vos and Ireland’s Lara Gillespie. It marks Wiebes’ fifth career stage win in the Tour: she previously won two in 2022 and one in 2023.

Stage 4 began in Saumur with race favorite Demi Vollering appearing on the start line. The FDJ–Suez leader had crashed hard the previous day but said before the stage that she felt fit enough to continue.

Maud Rijnbeek of VolkerWessels launched a solo attack and was later joined by Germany’s Franziska Koch and Brazil’s Ana Vitória Magalhães. Rijnbeek dropped back, and the remaining two were reeled in with four kilometers to go.

General classification runner-up Kimberley Le Court made a move on a slight uphill section with two kilometers left. Wiebes launched her sprint in the final kilometer with Vos on her wheel, but Vos was unable to pass. Eline Jansen, finishing fourth, was the third Dutch rider in the top ranks.

Vos retains the overall lead, 12 seconds ahead of both Wiebes and Le Court. Vollering sits in sixth place, 25 seconds back. Stage 5 on Wednesday features a hilly finish. The Tour de France Femmes runs through Sunday.
