Four hurt in Rotterdam home fire; Several rescued with crane truck
Four people got hurt in a fire in a small apartment building on Bergslelaan in Rotterdam overnight. Emergency services resuscitated one victim on the street before rushing all four of them to a hospital, Rijnmond reported. The fire brigade had to rescue five residents from the burning building with a crane truck.
The fire broke out at around 1:00 a.m. on the ground floor of the residential complex. Several people were in the home at the time. The fire department evacuated the entire building, which consists of eight apartments.
In addition to the four people who had to go to the hospital, paramedics treated another six people at the scene. Ten ambulances were on standby on Bergselaan to provide assistance.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., the fire department reported that the fire had been extinguished and that authorities were investigating the cause. Locals told Rijnmond that the fire started in a kitchen while someone was cooking.
Because the fire was on the ground floor, the fire brigade was able to extinguish it without causing significant damage to the other homes. No hazardous materials were released during the fire, and some residents could return to their homes quickly.
The municipality provided temporary shelter for evacuated residents who couldn’t return home immediately.
