Video: Man in van deliberately hits horse mounted police officers in Den Bosch

A man driving a van deliberately hit two police horses in the city center of Den Bosch on Wednesday afternoon. Video of the incident shows him hitting a horse at high speed, the officer falling to the ground, and then speeding away.

The officers were conducting their routine patrol through the city center when the man suddenly started cursing at them, a spokesperson for the police told Omroep Brabant. When the officers tried to confront the man about his behavior, he got into his van and drove away.

A short time later, he drove into the two police horses on Hinthamerstraat before speeding off. Both horses were injured. The animals sustained significant scratches, the police spokesperson told the broadcaster. A veterinarian treated the horses’ scrapes and will check on them again on Thursday.

The officers didn’t sustain any serious injuries. “It was mainly a very frightening experience,” the spokesperson said.

The man was later arrested outside the city. He turned out to be under the influence of alcohol. The officers involved are pressing charges against him.
