Man severely injured after kicking burning explosive near Amsterdam-Zuidoost home

A 26-year-old man suffered serious leg injuries Thursday night after an explosive device detonated outside his residence in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, police said Friday.

The explosion occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Janusz Korczakstraat. According to police, the man noticed something burning near his home and attempted to extinguish it by kicking it. The device exploded at that moment, injuring his leg, De Telegraaf reports.

Emergency services transported the man to a hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that more people were inside the residence at the time of the blast, including a young child. No other injuries were reported.

The explosion damaged the front door and shattered a window. Police have launched an investigation and are calling on witnesses to come forward.
