ProRail warns heat wave could disrupt Dutch rail service this weekend
Dutch rail infrastructure manager ProRail warned of potential disruptions to the railway system this weekend due to high temperatures. Heat often causes malfunctions on the tracks, prompting increased monitoring by staff during warm weather.
Rail tracks can expand in the heat, which may lead to signal and switch failures. ProRail also reported that electronic systems on the rail network are more prone to malfunction under high temperatures. Additionally, movable parts on rail bridges can be affected as metal expands, potentially preventing them from opening and closing properly.
Travelers are advised to bring enough water and closely follow travel updates. ProRail assured that contractors are prepared to promptly carry out any necessary repairs to keep the rail network running smoothly.
The company emphasized its commitment to minimizing inconvenience. "Contractors are, as always, ready to perform necessary repairs immediately," a spokesperson said.
