Feyenoord strikes early with 10 million euro signing as Dutch transfer window opens
The Dutch summer transfer window officially opened Monday, but several Eredivisie clubs had already begun reshaping their rosters. Feyenoord landed the biggest deal so far, while reigning champion PSV faces key contract expirations, according to NU.nl.
Feyenoord moved early by signing Eredivisie top scorer Sem Steijn from FC Twente for at least 10 million euros, marking the club’s only finalized incoming transfer to date. Talks are reportedly ongoing with FC Groningen midfielder Luciano Valente, who may follow.
No outgoing Feyenoord transfers have been confirmed, but speculation surrounds several players. Defender Dávid Hancko has been linked for weeks to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. Left back Quilindschy Hartman, whose contract runs through 2026, is reportedly eyeing a move. Foreign interest has also emerged for Igor Paixão and Antoni Milambo, though no formal offers have been made.
PSV has parted ways with starting goalkeeper Walter Benítez. Nick Olij has arrived from Sparta Rotterdam as his likely replacement, while the club is also targeting Bayern München goalkeeper Daniel Peretz. Replacing central defender Olivier Boscagli, who is also leaving as a free agent, is reportedly a top priority.
Team captain Luuk de Jong’s future remains unclear. His contract expires at the end of the month, and PSV has yet to announce a renewal. Veteran winger Ivan Perisic, 36, is also nearing free agency and is reportedly drawing serious interest from FC Barcelona. Several PSV players, including Noa Lang and Johan Bakayoko, are said to be open to potential transfers.
Ajax, which recently reappointed John Heitinga as head coach after parting ways with Francesco Farioli, has yet to complete any incoming deals. Heitinga returns for a second stint after a two-year absence.
Goalkeeper Remko Pasveer, 41, is in a similar situation to De Jong — his contract expires in two weeks, and no extension has been confirmed. Midfielder Davy Klaassen has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to extend his contract, but a final signing is still pending.
Ajax players Jorrel Hato, Kenneth Taylor and Brian Brobbey are reportedly being monitored by foreign clubs. While no concrete movement has occurred, Hato and Taylor will have a chance to showcase their talents at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship with Jong Oranje.
PSV has already seen several players depart: Benítez, Boscagli, Rick Karsdorp, Lucas Pérez and Tyrell Malacia are all leaving as free agents or loan returns. Richard Ledezma has joined Chivas Guadalajara.
At Ajax, in addition to Pasveer and Klaassen, loanees Matheus (SC Braga) and Daniele Rugani (Juventus) are returning to their parent clubs.
Feyenoord will lose several loan players, including Hugo Bueno (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Facundo González (Juventus), Ibrahim Osman (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Mimeirhel Benita (Heracles Almelo). Zépiqueno Redmond’s contract is expiring, and Gjivai Zechiël has transferred to FC Utrecht.
Elsewhere in the Eredivisie, FC Utrecht has been the most active. The club, which finished fourth last season and will enter the Europa League qualifying rounds, has signed six new players: Davy van den Berg (PEC Zwolle), Mike Eerdhuijzen (Sparta Rotterdam), Derry John Murkin (Schalke 04), Dani de Wit (VfL Bochum), Gjivai Zechiël (Feyenoord), and Emirhan Demircan (Bayern München).
AZ Alkmaar, which qualified for the Conference League qualifying rounds, has added Mexican left back Mateo Chávez and seen veteran Bruno Martins Indi depart as a free agent. The Chávez signing may be preparation for the possible departure of David Møller Wolfe.
NEC is also active, with the arrival of new coach Dick Schreuder and several reinforcements, including Virgil Misidjan, Youssef El Kachati — who stood out at Telstar — and former NEC midfielder Tjaronn Chery. A planned big-money transfer of Japanese midfielder Kento Shiogai to Red Bull Salzburg fell through after he failed the medical examination.
Of the three newly promoted clubs, Telstar has already lost El Kachati but signed three players from Quick Boys: Milan Zonneveld, Nigel Ogidi Nwankwo and Patrick Brouwer, all heading to Velsen-Zuid.
Excelsior and FC Volendam have been quiet. Volendam has signed Ozan Kökçü, the older brother of former Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökçü.
The Dutch transfer market remains open until Sept. 1 at 11:59 p.m., giving Eredivisie clubs 2½ more months to complete deals.
