Today will be the hottest day yet this year with temps up to 32°C; Cooler from Sunday

Friday will be the hottest day of the year so far in the Netherlands. Maximums will climb to “oppressively warm” 25 to 32 degrees, with lots of sunshine and an occasional shower, Weeronline reported. Thunderstorms are expected in some places tonight. Saturday will be another hot day with tropical temperatures of 30 degrees or over, but from Sunday it will cool slightly to “pleasant summer weather with lots of sun.”

Friday will start with some clouds, but they will disappear by the afternoon, and the sun will shine brightly. There may be an occasional shower or thunderstorm in the south during the morning. The afternoon will be dry with a weak east to northeast wind. Temperatures will rise on the beach to 25 to 27 degrees, elsewhere to 29 to 39 degrees, and in the south even up to 32 degrees.

It will be the hottest day of the year so far, but not a record for June 13th. On this date in 1964, thermometers reached 34.0 degrees in Volkel and 33.3 degrees in Deelen. The national record, set at the national weather station in De Bilt, is 31.5 degrees in 1964.

Tonight, several heavy rain and thunderstorms will develop in the southwest and move northwards over the western half of the country. “These showers can be intense and will be accompanied by hail, heavy gusts of wind, and a lot of rain in a short time,” the weather service said.

Saturday will be another hot day with lots of sunshine and a shower here and there. Maximums will climb to between 23 degrees in the west of Zeeland and 32 degrees along the eastern border. The coastal areas will be 25 to 27 degrees. “The weather picture will regularly show sun, but cumulus clouds will also move over the country, and in the second half of the afternoon, these will grow inland into rain and thunderstorms.” There will be more rain and thunderstorms overnight.

From Sunday, the weather will cool down slightly. Maximums range between 19 and 23 degrees, with lots of sunshine and little to no rain. Next week will see “calm and pleasant summer weather with long sunny periods,” Weeronline said. The chance of rain is small, and maximums will range between 21 and 26 degrees daily.
