Man arrested in Germany for abducting his 3-month-old baby from Dutch hospital
A 45-year-old man from Moldova was arrested in Germany after allegedly abducting his three-month-old baby from a hospital in the Netherlands and attempting to cross the border without valid travel documents, NOS reports. The baby had been reported missing earlier that day, prompting a manhunt by Dutch police.
The arrest took place last Friday at the Bunderneuland parking area in Bunde, just across the border from Bad Nieuweschans in Groningen. German police stopped the man during a routine border check and discovered he did not have the required documents to enter the country. The infant was in the vehicle with him.
According to German police, the man had taken the baby without permission from a hospital in the Netherlands, where the child had been receiving medical treatment. The name and location of the hospital have not been released.
By the time of the arrest, Dutch authorities had already issued a missing persons alert for both the child and the father. Dutch police had launched a manhunt to find them.
The baby underwent a medical examination and was transported by ambulance back to a hospital in the Netherlands.
The man was taken into custody for violating German immigration laws. He was returned across the border. German authorities also said the man is wanted in connection with four other cases, but the details were not specified.
