Photos: Strawberry moon visible in Netherlands last night; Next one in 2043
A strawberry moon was beautifully visible above the Netherlands in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Social media flooded with photos of the full moon with a red glow. The next red moon will be in 2043, according to RTL Nieuws.
The strawberry moon does not get its name from the red glow, but from the time of year. The full moon in June is called a strawberry moon because it is strawberry harvesting season.
The red-orange glow last night was caused by the moon being low in the sky and seen through a thicker layer of the atmosphere. Because the moon was so low on the horizon this year, the color was more intense and visible for longer than usual.
Last nightโs full moon was the lowest on the horizon it has been in two decades. The next time that will happen will be in 2043.
