Polish man, 42, drowns while swimming outside designated area in Limburg lake

A 42-year-old Polish man died Saturday afternoon after disappearing underwater while swimming in a lake near the Limburg town of Weert, Hart van Nederland reported. According to police, the incident was a tragic accident.

Emergency services were alerted around 3:30 p.m. after the man disappeared underwater in the Blauwe Meertje, a popular recreational lake in the area. A police spokesperson confirmed that the man was not swimming near the designated beach area, where most swimmers gather, but was farther out in the water when he ran into difficulty.

Friends who were present attempted to resuscitate him after pulling him from the water. The regional safety authority reported that first responders took over the resuscitation efforts shortly afterward. Despite the intervention, their attempts to save the man were unsuccessful.

Authorities have not released the man's name. Police confirmed he was of Polish nationality and stated that the incident is being treated as a fatal accident with no indications of foul play.
