Metro train evacuated in Rotterdam after man makes false explosive claim

A metro train was evacuated on Friday morning in Rotterdam after a man had yelled that he was carrying an explosive. No traces of an explosive were found during the investigation of the incident. A 30-year-old man without a fixed home or residence was arrested, according to police. The metro trains are now running again.

Police received a report of a “suspicious situation” at around 10 a.m. The train, which was on its way to Rotterdam from The Hague, was stopped at the Blijdorp station in Rotterdam-Noord before being evacuated. According to Omroep West, the man was arrested an hour and 15 minutes after the train had been stopped.

Any person leaving the train was stopped and searched by officers. It is unclear how many people were on the metro train during the incident. The fire department and ambulance were also present at the station.

Police notified people who experienced the incident that victim support was available.
