Forecasters predict days of stormy weather before weekend sunshine returns
The Netherlands faces a turbulent week of weather with frequent showers, strong winds, and heavy rainfall expected through Thursday, followed by a brief return to sunshine and warmer temperatures heading into the weekend, weeronline reports. Forecasters say rain gear will be necessary for much of the week, as the country braces for significant precipitation. But Saturday is expected to be mostly dry and fairly sunny.
The week will begin on a relatively calm note. Monday morning is expected to be largely dry and sunny, but conditions will change rapidly as cumulus clouds form and may develop into showers. The southern and eastern regions of the country face the highest chance of rain. Despite the incoming showers, the day will still offer periods of sunshine. Temperatures will range between 16 and 19 degrees, with a moderate to fairly strong southwesterly wind.
From Tuesday through Thursday, weather conditions will become unsettled. Tuesday is expected to start with stormy weather, especially along the coast where wind speeds could reach 75 kilometers per hour. While the wind will slightly weaken on Wednesday and Thursday, it will reportedly remain strong throughout the period.
Showers and rainbands will move across the country every day. Rainfall will occasionally be intense, and the amount of sunshine will vary. Both Tuesday and Wednesday will feature a mix of sunshine and showers. On Thursday—Ascension Day—skies will start out sunny, but clouds will increase as the day progresses. Light rain is expected from the incoming cloud cover. Highs during these days will range from 15 to 17 degrees.
Between now and Thursday evening, the country is expected to receive between 20 and 30 millimeters of rain—about half the typical monthly average. Locally, totals could even reach 60 millimeters, equivalent to an entire month’s rainfall, though forecasters caution that it is still uncertain whether these higher amounts will be realized.
Starting Friday, conditions are forecast to improve. Rainfall will decrease, and the sun is expected to appear more frequently. Temperatures will reportedly also climb, with regional highs exceeding 20 degrees. Saturday, in particular, is expected to be mostly dry and fairly sunny, with only the possibility of an isolated shower. Temperatures will vary by region on Saturday, reaching around 18 degrees in the northwest and up to 21 degrees in Limburg.
