Minister against Amsterdam's plans to shut down A10 ring road for 750 years celebration
Minister Barry Madlener (Infrastructure) does not think it is a good idea to close part of the A10 to celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. A large part of the ring road around the capital will be closed to cars due to the festivities over the weekend of June 20 to 22.
“You should not claim roads for parties,” Madlener said about this in De Telegraaf. “Of course, this party is unique, but it should stay at that.”
Madlener pointed out that roads must remain available now that a lot of roadworks are happening. He also told the newspaper that the decision to close the motorway was taken by the previous Cabinet.
“And so I have no choice but to wish the partygoers a lot of fun. But is it a good idea? No, of course not.”
During the Op de Ring festival, there will be music, sports, theater, and dance on the A10. Twenty couples will also get married.
