De Librije to re-open tonight after three-Michelin star chef Jonnie Boer's death

De Librije restaurant in Zwolle will open again on Wednesday evening, two weeks after the unexpected death of the chef Jonnie Boer. His relatives have said that the three-star restaurant will continue. “We will continue to inspire you and make Jonnie proud!” Thérèse Boer, Jonnie’s wife, her children, and chef Nelson Tanate wrote in an Instagram post.

“Jonnie would say: okay, and now we keep working. Continue with what we were working on. Standing still is going backwards,” the post says. “We are still shocked by the sudden passing of Jonnie. We have really felt your love and support over the last week, and it has been a great comfort for us. Thank you very much for this!”

Boer passed away on Wednesday, April 23, at 60 years of age due to a pulmonary embolism in Bonaire. His funeral was held last Friday in Zwolle with hundreds of people also saying their goodbyes on Thursday. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were among the many people who sent flowers and bouquets to the funeral.

De Librije has had three Michelin stars since 2004. It is currently the only Dutch restaurant with such a high classification
