Go Ahead Eagles fans banned for racism, pitch invasion at AZ match

Two Go Ahead Eagles supporters have been issued five-year stadium bans and fines for serious misconduct during Sunday’s Eredivisie match against AZ Alkmaar, the KNVB confirmed Monday, according to NOS.

One fan racially abused AZ forward Ibrahim Sadiq by mimicking a monkey and making ape noises. The other supporter invaded the pitch while AZ players were thanking their fans and taking a photo with a banner commemorating a deceased supporter. Stewards quickly removed the pitch invader.

The KNVB said it will receive the identities of both supporters from Go Ahead Eagles. The football association confirmed both individuals will face five-year bans from all Dutch stadiums and fines. According to KNVB policy, adults found guilty of these offenses are fined 450 euros, with different amounts applying to minors.

“These offenses carry a five-year stadium ban and a fine, the amount of which depends on the age of the offender,” the KNVB said in a statement. KNVB spokesperson added that both incidents were clearly captured on video.

“In these cases, the evidence is fairly clear,” the spokesperson said. “One of them is on the pitch, and the other is making gestures toward a player. You can see it on the footage.”

Individuals who receive stadium bans from the KNVB have the right to appeal. If they choose to do so, the case will first be reviewed by a disciplinary commission. A further appeal can be made through the Dutch court system.
