Feyenoord confirm signing of Eredivisie top scorer Sem Steijn from FC Twente

The top scorer of the Eredivisie this season, Sem Steijn, has finalized a transfer to Feyenoord. The Rotterdam club confirmed that Steijn has agreed to join the club from FC Twente. He will join Robin van Persie’s side next season, having signed a contract until 2029.

It was recently reported by Tubantia and Martijn Krabbendam of Voetbal International that Feyenoord will pay 10 million euros for the midfielder, with a possible three million euros that can be added to the fee through bonuses. This would make him the most expensive signing in Feyenoord’s history.

Steijn is joining on the back of a fantastic season in which he is comfortably top of the top scorer charts with 23 goals, with four league matches remaining for Twente in the Eredivisie season. Incidentally, second place in the top scorer list is a Feyenoord player, Igor Paixao, who has 14 goals.

The 23-year-old broke through at ADO Den Haag in the 2021-22 season, scoring 18 goals in 43 appearances for the club before joining Twente on a free transfer in the summer of 2022. He signed a contract extension at the club in January.

FC Twente are currently fifth in the Eredivisie table. They are almost certain of a spot in the Playoffs for a qualifying spot in the UEFA Conference League, which would mean that Steijn has a few more games to play for the Tukkers before his departure.
