Paraglider killed in Overijssel crash, police investigating
A paraglider died Sunday after crashing in a field near the N341 in the rural outskirts of Sibculo, Overijssel, according to Dutch police. Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the individual, but the efforts were unsuccessful, according to De Telegraaf. The victim’s identity has not been released.
The paraglider went down under unknown circumstances early in the afternoon. Police, fire crews, and ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene, and a trauma helicopter was deployed. Firefighters placed large screens around the crash site to shield it from public view.
A spokesperson for the regional safety authority, Veiligheidsregio IJsselland, initially described the incident as involving a “flying object” or a “glider.” Witnesses at the scene reportedly told authorities they believed it was a paraglider. This has since been confirmed.
Authorities said they could not yet confirm the cause of the crash or whether others were involved. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
