Police arrest nine teen boys for stabbing of 15-year-old in Schiedam last March
Police made nine arrests on Monday and Tuesday in their investigation into last month’s stabbing of a 15-year-old in Schiedam. The nine boys are within the age ranges of 14 to 17 years old. They are all from Schiedam.
A stabbing incident was reported on March 10 by a sports field on the Parkweg in Schiedam at around 8:30 p.m. Police found a 15-year-old with several stabbing wounds upon arrival at the scene. The boy is currently in good condition.
Witnesses from the local sports club helped the boy before he was taken to hospital, police have said. "He had run onto the sports complex but had been driven into the bushes. There he lay with his face down and his head in the direction of the ditch,” the man said
Police have not given a reason for why the arrests happened a month after the crime. There is also currently no info on what led to the attack.
The stabbing came two weeks after the city was shocked by the news that a 13-year-old lost his life after being stabbed by another 13-year-old in Schiedam. This led to the municipal council of Schiedam calling on a plan of action to combat knife crime amongst young people, NOS reported.
Harald Bergmann, the city’s mayor, understands the clamor for this. “We need to do everything to prevent this from happening again,” said the mayor. He also claimed to want to speak to the Public Prosecution Service to see what improvements can be made.
