Boy, 13, fatally stabbed classmate in Schiedam after victim reportedly regretted robbery
The 13-year-old who is suspected of fatally stabbing Joni, also 13 years of age, did so because of a failed robbery attempt that led to the stabbing of a 65-year-old woman weeks earlier. The suspect’s lawyer is claiming that he attacked out of self-defense when it comes to the fatal stabbing of his classmate, RTL Nieuws reported.
Joni was lured to the forest and stabbed by the suspect on Sunday. Police are investigating Joni’s regret after the failed robbery attempt as one of the reasons for the fatal stabbing. Joni also indicated that he did not want to be around the boys who were telling him to commit crimes.
Cem Polat, the suspect’s lawyer, has said that his client has a very different version of events. Polat said that the claim that Joni was put under pressure does not correspond with what is reported in the files. "My client was open during questioning by the police and also explained that he defended himself."
The examining magistrate ruled on Wednesday that the 13-year-old will be remanded in pre-trial detention for two more weeks.
A meeting has been planned for Wednesday evening in which nearby residents can speak with each other or authorities about the events.
