No additional victims found after explosion and fire in Heerhugowaard apartment complex
Following the explosion and subsequent fire Thursday evening at an apartment complex in Heerhugowaard, authorities have confirmed that no further victims were found. Forensic investigations have concluded, and it has been established that, aside from the five individuals who sustained minor injuries, there were no additional casualties, De Telegraaf reports.
The incident resulted in significant damage to multiple apartments. Emergency services had previously indicated a high probability that no other individuals were harmed, a conclusion now confirmed.
Due to structural concerns, the 69 apartments in the building remain uninhabitable. There is a risk of collapse, and to ensure safety, security measures have been implemented to prevent unauthorized access.
In connection with the incident, five individuals have been arrested on suspicion of arson, including four minors. Two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the cause of the explosion and fire.
