Update 10:18 a.m. - Article updated to add details about a second suspect arrested

A baby died in a home in the Hillegersberg district of Rotterdam on Thursday evening. The police arrested two suspects, one immediately and one later.

Emergency services responded to the home on Lisztlaan in large numbers around 8:00 p.m., deploying police, an ambulance, and a trauma team by helicopter. First responders tried to resuscitate the child, but it was to no avail.

The Rotterdam police reported on X that they arrested one person in the home. On Friday, the police reported the second arrest. The suspects are a 31-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man. Their relationship to the child and what they are suspected of remain unclear.

It is not yet clear what happened in the home. According to Rijnmond, forensic investigators were busy at the scene late into the night.
