Traffic stop in Germany leads to 15 clarinets worth €65,000 stolen from Amsterdam shop
A 42-year-old from Serbia was arrested on Tuesday after German border police discovered 15 clarinets that had been stolen from an Amsterdam showroom. The instruments have a combined worth of 65,000 euros, the Parool reported. The man was already known to German police due to a history of theft.
Police found the instruments in Roermond, just over the German border. The officers also found a balaclava, tools used in the break in, and a jammer, a device that can obstruct alarm systems, in the vehicle. The clarinets were still in their original box when the officers found them by the Elmpt exit on the A52, near Roermond.
The theft of the clarinets was reported to the Amsterdam police department via the alarm system at the Buffet Crampon showroom at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The store on the Van Baerlestraat had announced on Instagram that they would be closed from Friday, March 14 to Wednesday, March 19.
The suspect also committed a crime by driving, he was in the midst of a driving ban at the time of the arrest. The car that he was driving in was registered in somebody else’s name. He could not give a believable answer when asked about the origin of the clarinets.
The 42-year-old has been handed over to Dutch authorities and is being held in custody for the time being.
