Routine police call turns violent: Two officers stabbed in Amsterdam-Noord
A routine police response in Noord turned violent early Tuesday when a suspect stabbed two officers during an arrest attempt, leaving one with a life-threatening arterial wound, police said. A third officer was also injured in the altercation.
Police were called to Warnsborn around 1:20 a.m. after reports of a man throwing household items onto the street. Upon arrival, officers found shattered glass and debris outside a residence. When they attempted to arrest the 55-year-old Amsterdam resident inside, he violently resisted and stabbed two officers.
To subdue the suspect, officers deployed a stun gun before successfully taking him into custody.
One of the wounded officers suffered a severe arterial bleed and was in critical condition at the scene. Paramedics provided emergency treatment before transporting him to the hospital. The second stabbed officer was also hospitalized, while the third injured officer received medical attention on-site. All three have since been discharged and are recovering at home.
Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any information. The police are particularly interested in security camera footage, video doorbell recordings, or dashcam footage from vehicles in the area that may have captured the incident.
