Scooter rider without license runs over officer, attacks police after arrest

A 19-year-old man from Purmerend injured two police officers during his arrest on Friday after being stopped for riding a scooter without a helmet. The suspect, who also did not have a valid driver’s license, attempted to flee but was intercepted by an officer. He then repeatedly drove his scooter into the officer, causing injuries.

The suspect was initially stopped by police for riding without a helmet. Upon discovering he had no license and was a repeat offender, authorities confiscated his scooter. When the man attempted to escape, an officer intervened. In response, the suspect deliberately drove into him multiple times, injuring the officer. With assistance from bystanders, police managed to subdue and arrest the man.

The situation escalated again at the police station. “He completely lost control and punched an officer in the face. With the help of several colleagues, we were eventually able to restrain him,” a police spokesperson said.

Both injured officers sustained minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment. According to the spokesperson, they are doing well under the circumstances. The 19-year-old suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
