A 40-year-old man was injured in an explosion at a home on Vredenluststraat in Hoogeveen during the early hours of Sunday. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and whether any criminal activity was involved.

Emergency services received a report of an explosion around 4:30 a.m. Upon arrival, police and firefighters confirmed that the incident had taken place inside a residence. The injured man, a resident of Hoogeveen, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police and fire investigators are conducting a thorough investigation. Authorities are reviewing security camera footage from the area and speaking with neighbors to gather information. As of now, the cause of the explosion remains unknown, and it is unclear whether criminal activity was involved.

“We don’t yet know exactly what happened,” a police spokesperson told NU.nl. The police confirmed in a statement on X that the investigation is ongoing and that they are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation into the cause of the blast.
