Dutch music industry revenue climbs with streaming and global sales boom
The Dutch music industry saw significant revenue growth in 2024, driven by increasing income from streaming services and sales abroad, according to NVPI, the industry’s trade association.
Streaming remains the dominant revenue source, accounting for 83 percent of total music sales. The industry generated more than 278 million euros from streaming in 2024, a 15 percent increase from the previous year.
The overall revenue from music sales, including streaming, vinyl, CDs, and singles, reached nearly 334 million euros, marking a 12 percent rise compared to 2023.
According to NVPI, the increase is partly due to higher subscription prices for streaming services. "This allows music to be valued more appropriately and provides more investment in new music, benefiting both the industry and consumers," said NVPI director Anne de Jong.
While streaming revenue grew, physical music sales declined. Vinyl sales remained relatively stable at 37 million euros, slightly down from 38 million euros in 2023. However, CD sales fell from 16.1 million euros to 13.8 million euros last year.
