Eurostar direct train between Amsterdam and London restarts today

The direct Eurostar train between Amsterdam and London is restarting today with space for more passengers. Travelers no longer have to change trains in Brussels because passport control will take place at Amsterdam Central Station again, at the renovated UK terminal.

Renovation work at Amsterdam Central Station meant that the previous terminal could no longer be used. At first, it seemed that the Amsterdam-London connection would disappear completely, but it was later decided that the connection could remain with a transfer in Brussels for passport checks. Eurostar also threatened to leave the Netherlands for good over uncertainty around the Amsterdam renovations and issues on the high-speed line.

From today, 400 passengers can board the international train in Amsterdam, up from 275 before the renovations. The Eurostar will run from Amsterdam to London three times a day. An early train was added, arriving in London at 9:57 a.m. The Eurostar has space for 900 people and also stops in Rotterdam, Brussels, and Lille.

The travelers’ association Rover is happy with the Eurostar’s return. “Amsterdam-Paris and Amsterdam-London are busy connections that are in high demand. It is great that more people can now get on that train,” director Freek Bos told NOS. “With the interim solution, people had to get off the train. That was annoying. You just want to work, read, or look outside.”

The new terminal is located at a different place in the station, in the Amstel Passage. It will close again from the end of March to the end of April for more work by ProRail. For that month, Amsterdam-London passengers will have to get their passports checked in Brussels again.
