Dutch Courts to participate in Pride Amsterdam boat parade in 2025

The Court of Appeal in Amsterdam, the Amsterdam District Court, and the Midden-Nederland District Court will participate in the Pride Amsterdam boat parade on August 2, 2025. The announcement was made Saturday by the organizers of Pride Amsterdam. The three courts had previously submitted a proposal for participation.

After the announcement, Bart van Meegen, president of the Amsterdam District Court, signed the participation agreement on behalf of the three courts, confirming that the first-ever boat for the judiciary will be part of the parade.

The courts’ involvement reportedly stems from their commitment to the values celebrated by Pride, such as diversity, equality, and love. In the Dutch Constitution, it is stated that all individuals are equal and deserve equal treatment, regardless of belief, race, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

"The judiciary is for everyone," the courts said in a statement. "By participating in the boat parade, the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam, the Amsterdam District Court, and the Midden-Nederland District Court want to visibly demonstrate their mission to protect everyone’s rights and freedoms and uphold the democratic rule of law."

The courts also noted that the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in 2025 provides a significant occasion to highlight their ongoing commitment to human rights.
