Cyclist killed in collision with taxi in Utrecht

A 24-year-old cyclist was killed in a collision with a taxi on Draaiweg in the Tuinwijk neighborhood of Utrecht early Saturday morning. The woman, a resident of Utrecht, was struck at approximately 1:40 a.m.

The 34-year-old taxi driver was overtaking another vehicle at the time of the crash, according to police. The woman was attempting to cross Draaiweg when she was hit.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the woman died at the scene from her injuries. The taxi driver was arrested and remains in custody for questioning.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Police are asking for witnesses and any available footage to help determine what happened.
