Raging fire at a home in IJsselstein; three residents taken to the hospital
A fire raged in a house on Englandstraat in IJsselstein on Friday morning. Three people were present in the home when the fire broke out, the safety region reported. One of the people was taken out of the home by the fire department. The other two residents were able to leave the home themselves. All three were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The home that caught fire was a terraced house, a spokesperson of the safety region explained. The other homes on the block were evacuated. Shelter has been arranged for the residents.
Around eight people were forced to leave their homes due to the fire. Two of the residents visited the General Practice Center as they may have taken in too much smoke.
The fire has now been put out. The fire was hard to reach for the fire brigade as it was mainly raging in the attic, and the stairs in the home were no longer safe for use. This led to the fire department attempting to put out the fire from outside the house, the spokesperson said.
There is a lot of smoke in the IJsselveld district as a result of the fire. Residents have been advised to close all windows and doors and to turn off ventilation systems.
It is unclear how the fire originated. The police are investigating the incident in order to rule out arson.
