Armed robbery at Amsterdam hospital parking lot prompts police investigation

Police in Amsterdam have launched an investigation following a violent armed robbery that took place on the evening of July 21 at the OLVG-West hospital parking lot. Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects involved in the incident, which they describe as "brazen and alarming."

The incident unfolded when two men arrived on a fatbike at the hospital's parking lot. One of the suspects dismounted and sprinted toward a man who was about to enter his car. The victim, who was taken by surprise, was confronted by one of the suspects brandishing a firearm and issuing a chilling ultimatum: “Take off your watch, take off your watch, or I’ll shoot you dead!” The victim handed over his watch to the armed suspect. The two men fled the scene together on the fatbike.

“This type of violent incident, especially in a public and sensitive location like a hospital parking lot, is deeply concerning,” a police spokesperson said.

Authorities have released surveillance footage of the suspects and are urging anyone who recognizes them or has information about the robbery to come forward. The suspects are described as two men who were dressed casually and used a distinctive fatbike as their mode of transport.

Police have warned the public to remain vigilant, particularly in high-risk areas or situations where they might be targeted. “Criminals often prey on individuals they believe to be vulnerable, especially when high-value items like luxury watches are involved,” the spokesperson added.

No further details about the suspects’ identities have been disclosed. The victim was not physically injured in the incident but remains deeply shaken.

The police are also encouraging witnesses or individuals with relevant information to contact them via the hotline at 0800-6070. For those wishing to remain anonymous, information can be reported through Meld Misdaad Anoniem by calling 0800-7000.
