Man shot in the head in Rotterdam on Saturday dies from his injuries
A 63-year-old man found on the street with a gunshot wound to the head on Saturday has died from his injuries. The man was taken to an area hospital, but he passed away on Monday, police confirmed. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear.
The incident happened on Reyerdijk in the city's IJsselmonde neighborhood. "The man was found bleeding profusely on the street by a passer-by at around 9:39 p.m.," police said in a statement. "Given the injuries, the police assumed a shooting incident."
First responders revived the man at the scene, and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Police searching for evidence found shell casings on the ground close to a tram stop.
Despite the fact that 20 detectives were assigned to the case as part of a major response, investigators were still trying to figure what led up to the apparent shooting three days later. "Nothing is known about the circumstances. The police are investigating and are looking for witnesses and camera footage," the police wrote in an update on Monday.
Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious near Reyerdijk between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the night of the shooting should contact police. Those who were in the area who may have camera footage, including from doorbell cameras or dashcams, were asked to review the material for anything that might be relevant to the investigation.
