Police Chief addresses release of Tarwekamp suspects
Police Chief Janny Knol of the National Police acknowledged public concern over the release of two suspects arrested before the fatal explosion at Tarwekamp. Speaking on WNL on Sunday, Knol stated authorities are investigating why further steps were not taken following their earlier arrests.
The two suspects, apprehended earlier in Oosterhout with jerrycans, torches, and fireworks, were later implicated in the attack that claimed six lives, allegedly under orders from a 33-year-old Rotterdam resident.
The explosion targeted a bridal shop, reportedly due to a personal dispute between the store owner and the suspect.
Knol explained the decision to release the suspects was made by a prosecutor based on available information at the time.
"In hindsight, connections are clearer," she said, adding the incident is under review to determine if different actions should have been taken. "It is also a matter of learning from this," she said.
