The police arrested a fourth suspect for possible involvement in the devastating explosion on the Tarwekamp in The Hague on Saturday. Police would only say that the man “may have been involved in the explosion” that left six people dead, and four others hospitalized.
He was taken into custody on Wednesday night, and more arrests are still possible. Police said that they turned their attention to the fourth suspect after three other men were arrested just before midnight on Monday.
“The role of the suspect in relation to the explosion and the other suspects is still being investigated. The investigation into the cause of the explosion is also ongoing.”
All four suspects are in restricted custody, which means that they are only allowed contact with their lawyers. The three men arrested on Monday will be brought before an examining magistrate on Friday for an initial hearing. Based on the evidence presented in the closed-door hearing, the magistrate can then order them to be held for up to 14 more days until a public arraignment in front of a three-judge panel at a district court.
On Tuesday, the police revealed on Opsporing Verzocht that they found indications that the explosion was an attack aimed at a bridal store that was located on the ground floor of one of the buildings on the Tarwekamp. Locals previously told Omroep West that the bridal store had only recently opened.
After the broadcast, the police received over 200 tips from the public with information that may help in the investigation.
