Art fair PAN back in the RAI for another week, rare Rolex watch on display

Lovers of art, antiques, and design can visit the RAI in Amsterdam for another week starting Sunday. The 37th edition of the PAN Amsterdam art fair will take place there. Last year, the fair attracted a record number of almost 42,000 visitors.

This year, more than 125 art dealers, antique dealers, and gallery owners can be found at the fair. The participants offer their paintings, antiques, modern and contemporary art, jewelry, photography, designer furniture, and objects. There is also a stage where several artists will be speaking.

Highlights of the fair include an “extremely rare” Rolex watch, two early posters by modernist painter Jan Sluijters, and two French candlesticks from the Napoleonic era. This year, as part of the 750th anniversary celebrations of the capital, the Amsterdam Museum is once again offering a tour of 15 objects associated with the city.

Furthermore, unique jewelry will be showcased. Jewelry designer Bibi van der Velden will be exhibiting a series of unique museum pieces, such as the Hermitage Ring, which was designed for the Jewellery exhibition in the former Hermitage Museum Amsterdam. Another eye-catcher is the Rock Pool Bracelet, an organic design with diamonds and a cluster of Keshi pearls in shades of blue, white, and gray.

On display is a portrait of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter (1607-1676), which, according to Antiquariat De Roo, was painted by Ferdinand Bol (1616-1680), a student of Rembrandt. Bart de Roo from the antiquarian bookshop bought it at auction and then had the work examined by art historians and experts. According to him, they have “conclusively” established that it is an authentic work by Bol. PAN Amsterdam is offering the painting for 500,000 euros.
