Classic Ajax logo becomes official club logo again after 34 years
The classic Ajax logo will once again be the official logo of the Amsterdam football club from the 2025/2026 season. Ajax announced on Sunday that the logo will return to the club's match shirts after 34 years. The return of the logo, which was used until 1991, coincides with the celebration of Ajax's 125th anniversary on March 18 next year.
"The celebration of this anniversary starts with the announcement that the classic logo is returning," says interim director Menno Geelen. "We know that a majority of our fans have cherished this wish for years and we found our 125th anniversary a perfect moment to give those fans and ourselves the return of the classic logo as a gift."
Ajax is at its best "when we remain true to the Ajax DNA", says Geelen. That’s why we are doing everything within the club to uphold that DNA, from our football philosophy to our core values. Bringing back the classic logo symbolizes this commitment and serves as both a tribute to our rich history and an inspiration for the future—a future that relies on everything we hold dear about our club."
The return of the classic logo will be celebrated in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday afternoon, Ajax reports. "The 125th anniversary feels like a very fitting moment to give the logo back to the club, the fans, and ourselves. We are delighted to make such a contribution," says Ernst Boekhorst, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
On Sunday, former Ajax players will compete against the 'legends' of Real Madrid in a charity match. Edwin van der Sar, Frank and Ronald de Boer, and Jari Litmanen will be among the players.
