334 kilograms of cocaine found in Colombian bananas at Vlissingen, two arrests

The police have arrested two people after finding 334 kilos of cocaine in the port of Vlissingen. The drug find was already on Wednesday but was made public by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) on Friday evening. The drugs were among a shipment of bananas from Colombia, and according to the Public Prosecution Service had a street value of over 25 million euros.

As a result of the cocaine find, the detective team of the Zeeland-West Brabant unit of the Seaport Police launched a further investigation.

This led to the arrest of a 55-year-old resident of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht on Friday. The suspect's home was searched on a court order where digital data carriers, administrative documents, money, watches, and two vehicles were confiscated.

Later that afternoon, another 26-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on the highway near Ede. Both suspects were taken into custody for further investigation. They are currently under strict house arrest.

The drugs were seized and have since been destroyed by the customs special task force (TBB), according to the OM.
