Firearm found in a 15-year-old’s locker at high school in Capelle aan den IJssel
A firearm was found in a 15-year-old student’s locker at a high school in Capelle aan den IJssel on Thursday morning. The boy has been arrested, and the firearm has now been seized, police reported.
Police will now investigate where the gun had come from and how the boy obtained it. The weapon was found during a random search of the lockers. Something that is done as part of the Safe School Covenant that has been concluded between schools, the municipality, and the police and aims to ensure the safety of students and employees in and around the schools.
Officers have been searching lockers at schools for years. “This often takes place in collaboration between schools and local police officers,” the police told RTL Nieuws a while ago. Sometimes, the lockers are searched due to a suspicious situation.
It was not announced which school in Capelle aan den IJssel this occurred at. Schools also decided to search lockers sometimes without the help of police.
