Explosive attack on ATM leaves 14 homes damaged in Amsterdam
An explosive attack on an ATM on Maasstraat in Amsterdam early Thursday morning left 14 surrounding homes damaged. At least one is uninhabitable, the property manager told AT5. The ATM itself was blown to pieces. No one got hurt, the police said.
The bombing happened around 2:30 a.m. The explosion blew away the wall in a stairwell and shattered many of the windows in surrounding homes. Residents couldn’t access their homes all night, a police spokesperson confirmed to the Amsterdam broadcaster.
Witnesses reported hearing two “gigantic bangs” and seeing two dark-clothed men fleeing on a scooter toward Churchilllaan.
The police called in the Explosive Ordinance Disposal service of the Ministry of Defense to check for and remove any remaining explosives. After that, the police started investigating.
It is unclear whether the perpetrators managed to steal any cash from the ATM.
