Hottest day of the year so far; Code yellow for much of Netherlands

Today will definitely be the hottest day of the year so far, according to Weeronline. Thermometers will hit tropical 30 degrees or higher everywhere except for the far north and Wadden Islands. The southeast can hit 35 degrees. The day will also be humid. And tomorrow will look much the same. The KNMI issued a code yellow warning for high temperatures in parts of the country.

“Summer is in full swing in our country this Monday,” Weeronline said. “With mostly clear blue skies, it sounds like a wonderful summer day, but for some people, it is much too hot. The high humidity also makes it feel stuffy.”

The meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning for high temperatures in Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, and Limburg today. The warning is in place from 1:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m. “People with vulnerable health, in particular, can develop symptoms like overheating and dehydration. Anyone can develop these symptoms during heavy exertion,” the KNMI warned. A similar warning applies to Gelderland, Overijssel, Drenthe, and Groningen tomorrow.

“Drinking enough water and occasionally seeking shade is definitely recommended,” Weeronline said.

Tonight will be very warm, with temps still between 24 and 30 degrees north to south at 9:00 p.m. Overnight may see a thunderstorm, but that won’t make it cool down much. “Minimum temperatures will probably not fall below 20 degrees in several places.”

Tuesday will also be hot and muggy but with added thunderstorms. “The wind will quickly turn to the west, which will gradually bring less warm air towards our country. The differences in temperatures will, therefore, be large.”

Maximums on the coast will range between 23 and 25 degrees. In the far east, thermometers could hit 33 degrees. The sun will shine regularly, but the chance of thunderstorms and showers will increase during the day. “The showers will be very local in nature, and many places in the country will probably have a completely dry summer day. The greatest chance of a thunderstorm seems to be reserved for the interior,” Weeronline said.

Wednesday will be significantly cooler, with maximums between 22 and 26 degrees. “Fairly common values for this time of year.” The wind will be mostly moderate, and there will be widespread showers and thunderstorms. “Most of these are destined for the morning hours. In the course of the afternoon, it seems to become a lot drier everywhere.”

Thursday is set to be a pleasant summer day. Little to no rain is expected, and there will be a mix of sunshine and clouds. Temperatures will range between 23 degrees in the coastal areas and 27 degrees in Limburg.

After that, Weeronline expects “fairly normal Dutch summer weather.” With occasional showers and typical temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.
