Dutch airports again enforcing the only 100 ml of liquids rule
From September 1, Dutch airports will again enforce the rule that you can’t take liquids in containers larger than 100 millileters in your hand luggage. Travelers will no longer be able to go through security with a full water bottle or other drink at Schiphol Airport, Eindhoven Airport, and Rotterdam The Hague Airport.
Parent company Royal Schiphol Group stressed that the rule adjustment is due to new European regulations and not because of a higher threat level. It also pointed out that the 100 ml rule is the international norm.
For years, travelers had to trhow away or emptly their bottles when going through airport security. A few years ago, the three Dutch airports introduced new scanning equipment that could scan larger amounts of liquids, making this unnecessary. But in September, the airports in Amsterdam, Eindhoven, and Rotterdam will go back to the old rules.
Travelers can still take a water bottle with them, but it must be empty. They can fill it again after going through security. “All liquids in containers up to 100 ml are still allowed in hand luggage. Other rules remain unchanged,” Royal Schiphol Group said.
The airports will put up signs and deploy staff to make travelers aware of the rules.
