20.7 million travelers used Dutch airports in Q2; Schiphol the 2nd busiest airport in EU
20.7 million people traveled to, from, or through the five commercial airports in the Netherlands, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported on Monday. According to the statistics agency, Schiphol remains the second busiest airport in the European Union.
The number of flight movements increased at all five Dutch airports (+1.4 percent) compared to the second quarter last year, and passenger numbers rose by 3.1 percent. Only Maatricht Aachen Airport saw a decrease in travelers of nearly 10 percent.
Schiphol Airport remains the largest airport in the Netherlands, handling 87 percent of all flights and 87 percent of all travelers. There were nearly 124,000 flight movements at the Amsterdam airport in quarter two (+1.4 percent), and 17.9 million travelers used the airport (+3.1 percent).
The Netherlands’ biggest airport is also one of the busiest in the European Union. Last year, 66.8 million people traveled through Schiphol, putting the Amsterdam airport in second place after Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport (70.3 million travelers last year).
