Irish suspect (19) arrested in connection with stabbing of Dutch tourists in Portugal
A 19-year-old Irish citizen was arrested on Tuesday in the Portuguese coastal town of Albufeira on Tuesday after a stabbing that left four Dutch tourists wounded in the early hours of Monday morning, the Portuguese police reported. “The four wounded were attacked with a sharp object and had life-threatening injuries,” said the police.
The Dutch tourists were reportedly injured in a fight with a group of Irish tourists staying in the same building. The Irish tourists had complained about the Dutch tourists’ music being too loud, and things escalated to the point where both groups pulled knives, the Irish Mirror reported.
Four Dutch tourists and one Irish tourist got stabbed. According to the Irish newspaper, the injured are between the ages of 17 and 21 years old.
“An exchange of words turned into a physical confrontation,” the Portuguese police stated, who described it as a “violent attack.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hasn’t commented on the tourists’ ages for privacy reasons. Privacy is also why it won’t comment on their condition.
