Air France-KLM expects to spend €10 million on compensation for Windows outage

Air France-KLM is expecting a compensation fee of 10 million euros due to last week's worldwide computer outage. The outage resulted in KLM canceling 75 return flights at Schiphol Airport, especially to and from European destinations.

Air France-KLM is still mapping out the damage. Part of that is missed income because people could not fly. Travelers also had to be put into hotels for the night. KLM announced on Sunday that it had made a rebooking proposal for all passengers whose flights were canceled due to computer malfunctions.

KLM CEO Marjan Rintel thought the outage was very annoying for the people who wanted to go on holiday on Friday. "We have focused on a stable operation in recent months and have done everything possible to allow people to leave on time. It is very annoying that we encountered these problems on Friday."

Rintel added that KLM had the situation under control quickly at Schiphol on Friday. "We were able to do a lot of recovery work halfway through the morning, which ensured that we were up and running on the same day. Luckily, everybody was able to go on holiday again on Saturday.
