Man missing after jumping off Maastricht bridge; Boy resuscitated in Gelderland
A man disappeared into the Meuse River after jumping off a bridge in Maastricht on Monday evening. Emergency services searched the river far and wide for him but had to call off the search with empty hands because it got too dark. Emergency services also pulled a 6-year-old boy out of a recreational lake in Gelderland and resuscitated him.
The police received a report that someone had ended up in the Meuse from the Wilhelmina Bridge at around 9:15 p.m., the Limburger reported. Police stopped shipping traffic, and officers and firefighters searched the water with boats, a water scooter, and a diving team. A trauma team was also deployed by helicopter.
The search was called off at around 10:45 p.m. when it became too dark to see. It will be picked up again on Tuesday.
A 6-year-old boy nearly drowned at the Landal Landgoed ‘t Loo vacation park in Gelderland. Emergency services pulled him out of the park’s recreational lake and spent some time resuscitating him on the beach before rushing him to a hospital in Utrecht by helicopter, Omroep Gelderland reported.
It is unclear how the child ended up in the water. A police spokesperson also could not tell the broadcaster how the boy was doing. The police made victim support available to the people who witnessed the resuscitation.
