Warmest period of the year changeable this year, Code Yellow issued due to thunderstorms
The period from July 20 to August 21, also known as the dog days, is slightly changeable this year. According to Weeronline, what is usually the warmest time of the year now brings temperatures between 21 degrees in the northwest and 25 degrees in the southeast of the country.
The dog days will kick off with tropical temperatures across the country on Saturday. In the coastal region, beachgoers can look forward to 27 to 29 degrees; further inland, the temperature even rises to 30 to 32 degrees. In the southeast, temperatures may reach their peak of 33 degrees.
However, the weather situation will change towards Saturday evening with rain and thunderstorms. Due to this danger, the national meteorological institute KNMI has issued a code yellow for the provinces of Utrecht, North Brabant, Gelderland and Limburg. This warning applies from 5 p.m. and lasts until midnight.
The weather service reports that the showers can be locally heavy, with a chance of thunder, hail, a lot of rain in a short time, and heavy gusts of wind of about 75 km/h. These showers will cool down on Sunday, with the temperature not rising above 23 degrees on average. In addition to sunshine, some precipitation is also expected, resulting in a mix of sunshine, clouds, and showers. According to Weeronline, it will be warmest in the east, at 25 degrees.
The weather for the coming week is dry, with a shower here and there, but without high summer temperatures. With an average of 18 to 22 degrees, it is about 3 degrees cooler than usual for this time of year.
