XR replaces fossil fuel advertising at over 500 bus and subway stops with own posters
In several places across the country, Extinction Rebellion (XR) has replaced posters with "fossil advertising" with its own. According to the climate activists, this took place at at least 500 bus and subway stops, on streets, and in squares.
XR is taking action against the fossil fuel industry (oil, gas, and coal). This leads to "unbearable heat, extreme weather conditions, flooding, food and water shortages, " forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
According to XR spokesperson Emile Sprenger, every day, 20,000 innocent children are forced to flee their homes because of climate change. Over the next three decades, up to 300 million people will be forced to flee due to unbearable heat, extreme weather, floods, food, and water shortages, all caused by the fossil industry. The fossil fuel industry uses fossil advertising to mislead us and increase demand for its harmful products. XR is done with it: fossil advertisements do not belong in the public space."
For this reason, XR is calling for a "ban on advertising for air travel, cruises, cars with internal combustion engines, coal, oil and gas companies, and their products." These companies should also stop sponsoring museums, sports, and schools.
The activists say that the posters will be replaced more often from now on.
