Dutch King says he didn't know about Frenna's child sex conviction before meeting rapper

King Willem-Alexander was unaware that Frenna was convicted for sex with an underage girl in 2017 before he visited the Dutch rapper in the United States this week. The King and Queen Maxima had visited Frenna at the renowned Patchwerk Recording Studio in Atlanta on Monday as part of their four-day trip to the states of Georgia and New York, NOS reports.

Frenna was arrested in Suriname in 2016 with artists KM and Priceless. They had sex with an underage girl a year earlier and shared a video of it. The Dutch rapper was 24 years old at the time. Frenna and Priceless spent 2.5 months in custody. They were convicted but did not go to prison due to their long time in pre-trial custody.

Speaking to the press at the end of the royal couple’s trip, Willem-Alexander said that he was unaware of the conviction. “But that said: everyone in the Netherlands who has been convicted and served their sentence deserves a second chance. That is how our legal system works,” the Dutch King said.

“The behavior he has shown is not acceptable. We should not accept it either,” Willem-Alexander continued. “But he has shown remorse, he has served his sentence, and he deserves a second chance.”

The King also answered questions about soon swearing in the new Dutch Cabinet. He is looking forward to it, Willem-Alexander said. A new government will bring changes, he said. “The Netherlands has had the same Prime Minister for 14 years. I have worked with the same Prime Minister for 11 years. Of course, it will change: a different person, different people. But there also remains a lot of continuity. And continuity, that’s what we are.”
