High water levels in Rhine this week due to flooding in Germany

Flooding in southern Germany is expected to lead to significantly higher water levels in the Rhine this week. Weeronline expects no “stressful water levels” in our country, but the floodplains could flood on a large scale. As a result, low-lying campsites in the floodplains may have to be cleared, and farmers will have to move their livestock from there.

The weather agency reports that the high tide wave, with a water level of over 13 meters above NAP, will arrive on Friday at Lobith, the Gelderland border town where the Rhine flows into our country. “From 13, there is a raised water level, and the floodplains can be flooded on a large scale. That can happen locally from Wednesday, when the level of 12 meters above NAP is reached.”

Weeronline considers 15 meters high water and 16.5 meters extremely high water. Water levels are expected to drop again to around 11 meters from Sunday, but that is still 2 meters higher than typical for this time of year.

In the south of Germany, several villages are being evacuated due to flooding caused by heavy rain. Austria is also experiencing problems due to the downpours.
