Max Verstappen finishes sixth in the Monaco Grand Prix

Max Verstappen finished sixth in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. Charles Leclerc won the race for the first time. The Ferrari driver started in pole position and did not relinquish his lead on the street circuit.

Verstappen started the race in sixth, and as was the case with the whole top six, his spot didn’t change throughout the race.

The race was just one lap in when a red flag was issued. A crash involving Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), and Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) resulted in Verstappen’s Mexican teammate being eliminated from the race.

As is usually the case at the circuit, the race was uneventful, with Monaco’s tight roads making it very difficult to overtake cars.

Verstappen thought the same as he told his team that “the red flag completely destroyed any kind of strategy… really, really boring here.” He added that he should have brought his pillow as Red Bull boss Christian Horner told him there was one overtake in the race.

It was Leclerc’s first win in the F1 this season. Oscar Pastri finished second in his McLaren car, with Carlos Sainz finishing off the podium and placing third for Ferrari.

The reigning champions lead has now been reduced from 48 points to 31. He now has 169 points, with Leclerc second with 138.

The next F1 race is on June 9 in Canada at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.
